On Caring

I was talking to a friend and found that she was a little unhappy. I didnt feel good, so asked her why. She said that she was not well and had fever and had to take rest. But this was not the reason for her to be unhappy. Rather it was this guy at office who was her reason of unhappiness. She had told him that she had fever and had to leave office early. He had replied okay and had not bothered to ask her how she felt or whether she went to see a doctor.

Okay - so this was the problem. She expected a few caring words from him.

It didnt take me long to understand the causes of her unhappiness.

Firstly, expectations ruin a relationship. Had she not expected these words she wouldnt have felt bad.
Secondly, she thinks caring should be displayed verbally or emotionally.

So I told her that people display their feelings in different ways. Some stay in the hospital for hours while others call up every hour to ask how you are doing. Some people drop in with flowers while others call up once or twice. And then some people are so emotional that they cannot see their closed ones in the sick bed. They never call ! But deep down they hope that you get well soon.

And then, the greatest flaw of humanity where people start expecting from others caused this unnecessary unhappiness. I asked her why she expected those caring words from him. In the first place, he is not related to her.
